Thanks for taking a look at my portfolio!
I am currently a Senior Technical Writer at NI (formerly National Instruments; NATI), where I document NI's latest semiconductor test products and collaborate with others to improve content quality.
The content that I write does not include a byline, and a large amount of it is restricted for IP protection. For this reason, my portfolio does not contain links to my latest work.
I earned a B.J. (Bachelor of Journalism) from the University of Texas at Austin in 2016, with enough computer science courses to almost earn a certificate. I created this portfolio during my senior year to showcase my work. For the most part, this site is essentially just a nostalgia trip.
If I ever publish bylined content again, I'll add links here.
I found a passion for visualizing data near the end of my time in undergrad, which has helped to guide my career path thus far.
Texas Loves Ted started out as a final project for my Data Mapping and Storytelling course and ended up as an article published in Texas Monthly. Shoutout to Kirk Goldsberry (my professor), Shannon McGregor (fellow student; co-author for Texas Monthly article), and Kaitlin Tasker (grad student teaching assistant) for all the opportunity, feedback, and help to make this possible!
The rest of the images below link to a Tumblr blog which I created to store my Data Mapping and Storytelling projects.
I was lucky to collaborate with a lot of talented folks as a student at UT. Both in the newsroom of The Daily Texan (where I spent ~3 semesters) and during internships with The Alcalde, NewBay Media, Austin Monthly, and finally the Austin American-Statesman (in that order).
Below, you will find links to the content that I created while I was a student at UT.
I first entered the Daily Texan newsroom as a junior copy editor during the spring semester of my Freshman year. After a long hiatus, I rejoined the staff near the end of my Junior year to help create interactive content for the website. I also wrote some editorials for the paper on a bi-weekly basis during my last semester in school.

For this internship, I was employed by NewBay Media to copy edit content for A/V technology trade magazines. I was also given the opportunity to publish a small number of self-selected articles about modern technology and education (which are no longer accessible, sadly). This was internship entirely remote, and persisted from spring into summer (first for college credit, then for pay) until the next intern could start working in the fall.

My first professional journalism experience! I interned for The Alcalde, the alumni magazine for the University of Texas at Austin, during the fall of 2014. This internship mostly involved copy editing with some opportunities to create content for the magazine's website.
